Goals

Our program goals for children include the development of:

  • A positive self image.
  • An enthusiasm for learning and becoming an active, self-directed learner.
  • Pro-social behavior and skills such as engaging in collaborative play, resolving conflict with others, and functioning in large group interactions.
  • A feeling of community and the development of respect and empathy for others: an appreciation for diversity in culture, gender, ethnicity, and race.
  • Self-help skills that foster health and independence.
  • Emerging cognitive, social, language, and physical skills, the manipulation of symbols, and developmentally appropriate mastery.
  • The confidence to reach their individual potential.

Curriculum Development

Teachers base curriculum development on program goals and a firm understanding of the needs of the individual children in their classroom. Each teacher is responsible for the writing and implementation of lesson plans to guide their daily activities. The plans include:

  • A balance of child initiated and teacher directed activities.
  • A variety of activities that motivate children to explore and learn through play.
  • A regular balance of sensory activities, art, science, music, large motor, math readiness, cooking, group activities, dramatic play, small motor, language development and multicultural activities/discussions as applicable to each developmental level.
  • Circle time discussions/activities (Toddlers) as well as playground and outdoor experiences. Infants go outdoors on buddy rides.

  • Indoor and outdoor physical environments designed to promote involvement in the daily activities and easy, constructive interactions among adults and children.
  • The daily schedule also allows for naps and rest periods, meals and snacks.
